Office of the Dean

Welcome to the College of Natural Resources and Environment at Virginia Tech, where we are training the next generation of leaders. The future is clearly in the hands of our students.

We are proud of our rich history in this college, yet we seek to see the future and the role of our academic disciplines in addressing the most pressing issues facing society. Natural resources and the environment must be front and center as the world population increases.

Our heritage in forestry, wildlife, fisheries, wood science, and geography provides us a strong foundation for student learning and faculty research and engagement. Our faculty members are considered some of the very best in North America. And we benefit from diverse and allied disciplines at Virginia Tech, a Research I Classification University.

Looking forward, we vision to grow the comprehensive nature of the college with initiatives in water, coastal ecology, sustainability, geospatial sciences, biomaterials, and packaging science.

With the great working relationships among our college leadership team, faculty, staff, and students, we are clearly inventing our future.

Warm regards,

Paul M. Winistorfer, Ph.D.
