Groeschl Named Idaho State Forester

David Groeschl David Groeschl

Feb. 15, 2012 – David Groeschl (’91 M.S. in forestry) has been named state forester by Idaho Department of Lands Director Tom Schultz. “We are lucky to have someone of David’s caliber to take over the reins as the state forester,” Schultz said. “He brings experience from the private sector and other parts of the country, adding to his extensive forestry background in Idaho to help us succeed in our endowment mission to maximize these resources for the beneficiaries of the state.”

As state forester, Groeschl oversees Idaho’s Fire Management, Forest Management, and Forestry Assistance bureaus. He joined the Idaho Department of Lands in 2008 as administrator of the Forestry and Fire Division and was appointed acting state forester in July 2011.

Groeschl has very fond memories of his tenure at Virginia Tech. “My time at Tech further fueled my passion for forestry and a lifelong desire to learn and grow,” he said. “It’s a great school and I’m proud to be a Hokie!”
