Virginia Tech is moving to a common change of major system that will take place three times per year. The new process will be online and is called the Change of Major Application. When a change of major period opens up, students can request a new primary major through Hokie SPA rather than the previous paper form.
Campus Notice: New change of major process
The closing date for accepting change of major applications will depend on whether or not your requested major is restricted. The current list of restricted majors and their specific requirements can be found on the University Registrar's website. Note: All of CNRE’s majors are non-restricted.
The next common change of major session will open April 30.
Applications for non-restricted majors will close May 25.
You will receive a confirmation email once your request has been received. Once CNRE’s Advising Center processes the change, you will be notified via your Virginia Tech email.
This process applies to students who wish to change their primary major. Requests for adding secondary majors will still follow the paper process.
