Undergraduate Student

Hannah G. Lee

Sophomore, Environmental Resource Management

  • Minor: Natural Resources Recreation

I have lived in Williamsburg, Va., my entire life. My family and I live on a farm, where my father works on the farm and runs a bed and breakfast. My mother is a reading recovery teacher for the public school system. I have two older sisters, Summer who is 27 and Heather who is 24. Summer lives in Pittsburgh, Pa., and works for the U.S. Department of Energy. Heather just moved to College Station, Texas, to attend Texas A&M and work on her Ph.D. in geography. Growing up on a farm, I always loved the outdoors and animals. My grandfather was a veterinarian, and I decided to go to Virginia Tech as a pre-vet student majoring in wildlife science.

This past year I have learned a lot about myself, and at the end of the year I decided that the veterinary path was not for me. Leadership classes that I took my freshman year allowed me to see what my strengths are and what type of profession I would truly enjoy. I switched my major to natural resource conservation and then again to the environmental resource management option in forestry with a natural resource recreation minor. I finally feel like I’m where I belong, and I’m really enjoying the Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation. I know that after college I want to go to graduate school and get my master’s, and eventually work in natural resource management. I joined the Leadership Institute to increase my leadership skills, begin networking, and learn about jobs in natural resources. I am very excited about the upcoming year and can’t wait to gain all that I can from this course!
