Undergraduate Student

Morgan Brizendine

Senior, Fish Conservation

  • Minor: Biology and Watershed Management

When I first enrolled at Virginia Tech, I was undecided about my curriculum. However, I quickly discovered that the College of Natural Resources and Environment (CNRE) offered a major for students to learn about fish biology, ecology, and management. Since I have loved fishing for years and have become interested in fish management, I immediately knew that Fisheries Science was the curriculum I wanted to study. Over the past three years, I have been active in several clubs, including the Virginia Tech Chapter of the American Fisheries Society, Xi Sigma Pi, and the Virginia Tech American Water Resources Association. I am also a college ambassador and work to educate potential incoming and transfer students about all of the academic and extra-curricular opportunities CNRE offers its students.

I have been fortunate to intern with and work for multiple agencies like the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF), and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of State Parks (DCR). Additionally, I am currently working on two undergraduate research projects, one on smallmouth bass production in the New River and the other on stoneroller distribution in Virginia. After graduation, I hope to either work as a biologist or attend graduate school.
