Evan Friedman

Major: Wood Science and Forest Products

  • Option: Forest Products Business

I grew up in Park Ridge, N.J., a small town outside of New York City. I have always been interested in woodworking and built my first fort when I was around 8 years old using scrap wood left over from nearby construction sites. In high school, I took woodshop and learned how to properly use woodworking tools to make quality wood products. After starting my studies at Virginia Tech, I quickly became involved in many different organizations, notably the Virginia Tech Rescue Squad where I have advanced my training to become an Advanced Life Support provider.

Throughout my years at Virginia Tech, I have worked for various contractors doing a multitude of different projects. It seemed appropriate to obtain my home improvement contractor’s license with the hope that I will open my own business one day. I have realized that the administrative side of business is oftentimes much more complex than the operational side. In the WEI, I hope to develop skills to better manage such organizational complexity. I am excited to build relationships with my fellow WEI teammates and learn how to make the business be successful.
