Undergraduate Student

Natalia Estevez

Double Major: Mechanical Engineering & Theatre Arts

Expected Graduation Date: May 2018

I am a dual degree student, pursuing Bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Theatre Arts. My concentrations are in robotics and design; my interest lies primarily in the integration of technology in theatrical and film productions. I want to find new and creative ways to use robotics for entertainment, through mechanical effects as well as through the decisions made towards the design of sets and costumes. Fortunately, during my time at Virginia Tech I have had the opportunity to work on several student and professional films, design and build costumes for a play, worked on several set construction projects, and assisted in other roles within the theatre department. I've also been involved in the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers and the Society for Women Engineers, as well as the Louis-Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation. In 2011, after my freshman year, I was granted the opportunity to travel throughout several European countries with the Rising Sophomore Abroad Program, sparking my interest in global engineering communities. I am looking to build exciting opportunities for myself that will help grow these same types of global communities to support the integration of STEM fields and the Arts.
