Undergraduate Student

Joshua Godby

Major: Economics

Expected Graduation Date: May 2017

  • Minors: Leadership Studies - Military track + Philosophy, Politics, and Economics

Encouraging sustainability in businesses and everyday living is a service to our communities and world. I’ve been drawn towards a lifestyle of service; this became particularly evident when I decided to join Air Force ROTC at Virginia Tech. Additionally, I am passionate about finding ways to improve myself and our environment. The Sustainability Institute provides the opportunity for students to continue changing the world for the better.

In the fall of 2015, I studied abroad in Switzerland, Italy, Rwanda, and Ethiopia.  Experiencing different parts of the world not only broadened my cultural perspective, but also exposed me to lifestyles where environmental sustainably is valued. I hope to further investigate why firms have become more environmentally consciousness and the motivation behind the increasing sustainability trend. Furthermore, I want to apply my degree in Economics and experiences as an Officer of the United States Air Force. The military is one of the most effective organizations, but not the most efficient. I believe pursuing sustainable change within our military is the right thing to do and a greater service toward our taxpayers.
