Undergraduate Student

Alan Tung

Major: Chemical Engineering

Expected Graduation Date: May 2017

  • Minors: Green Engineering & Chemistry

My name is Alan Tung, and I’m a senior majoring in chemical engineering and minoring in green engineering and chemistry. I have been involved with American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and have spent some time in Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE). I spent six months as a quality engineer co-op in a manufacturing company, and it gave me a chance to apply what I have learned in school in a real-life situation. Being raised in Malaysia taught me to be open-minded and value each others differences. Diversity is definitely a powerful tool to achieve common goods. My dream job is helping the mother earth in battling climate change and environmental issues. I think humans have a responsibility to protect the earth. A chemical engineer can achieve this goal by becoming an environmental consultant, process engineer, and project engineer, just to name a few. Hopefully in the future, I will be developing greener chemical process, minimizing reactants, or improving energy usage of a plant in order to reduce environmental impact.
